Towering 16-meter snow walls draw thousands to Japan Alps

A corridor with 16-meter-high snow walls in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, has attracted numerous tourists worldwide to have a glimpse of breathtaking snow scenery which is rarely seen in spring in Northern Hemisphere.

Stretching from the Tateyama Mountain Range to the Northern Alps of Japan, the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route, embraces the heaviest snowfall of the country, with the thickest snow pilling up to 20 meters.

The mountain area is blocked and not accessible for visitors in winter due to heavy snow. In early spring, a path is carved through the thick snow, with two gigantic white walls standing on an altitude of 2,450 meters, and is open to public from mid-April to late June.

While the southern Toyama is precipitous mountain, its north part is the Toyama bay. After enjoying snow scenery in mountain, visitors could take the cable car down to seaside to see another beautiful view.
