Venezuela: Huge power outage leaves majority of country in dark

At least 18 of 23 Venezuelan states were affected by a blackout that authorities blamed on anti-government saboteurs from the United States.

Fifteen Venezuelan kids with kidney disease reportedly died after being unable to get dialysis during the power outage as President Maduro says a new cyber attack prevented authorities from restoring power.

The impact was felt in Sabana Grande and Plaza Venezuela, two neighborhoods in the center Caracas, where traffic lights had stopped working causing chaos for drivers.

Commuters in the capital were also forced to walk home after the metro service was hit by the power cut.

The state-run power company, Corpoelec, said the blackout was "part of the electricity war against the country" and that it was working to restore supply.
