Kalashnikov company presents electric car to rival Tesla, combat robot
Russian arms manufacturer Kalashnikov Concern, best known for its iconic AK-47 rifle, has unveiled what it describes as an electric supercar to rival Elon Musk's Tesla.
In contrast to the sleek futuristic curves of the Tesla, Kalashnikov's CV-1 has a retro look. Unveiled at a military forum in Moscow, the CV-1 has a design inspired by the Soviet hatchback "Izh Kombi," which was popular in the 1970s. But some visitors to the forum joked that it looks more like a Moskvich, an earlier car that dates from the 1940s.
Kalashnikov Concern says that when the CV-1 goes into production, it will be able to travel 350 kilometers (217 miles) on a single charge. The potential top speed hasn't been disclosed, although it's said to be several times higher than the company's current electric car models.
Another exhibit that attracted attention at the military forum was a two-footed combat robot, painted all in gold.
