Young Iranians crowned at Asian U20 Volleyball Championship

The Iran men’s national under-20 volleyball team has picked up the trophy at the conclusion of the 2018 Asian Men's U20 Volleyball Championship after it trounced the South Korean squad in the title challenge.

Iran, which marched into the final showdown after it notched up a 3-1 (25-14, 25-18, 15-25 and 25-14) victory over the Thai side in a semifinal fixture, swept South Korea in straight sets (25-22, 25-14 and 25-18) in the final match in the Bahraini capital city of Manama on Saturday evening.

In its semifinal game, South Korea routed Iraq 3-0 (25-17, 25-16 and 25-22) in consecutive sets to advance to the finale.

Both Iran and South Korea had already qualified for the 2019 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship as Asian representatives.

The 2018 Asian Men's U20 Volleyball Championship started on July 21, and ran through July 28, 2018.
