Young Iranian weightlifters claim title at Asian championships

The Iranian men’s national youth weightlifting team has collected 591 points at the 25th Asian Junior Women and 32nd Asian Junior Men Weightlifting Championships in Uzbekistan, and lifted the trophy at the prestigious continental sports event.

Iran stood first with a total of nineteen (seven gold, six silver and six bronze) medals. Uzbekistan finished as vice champion with 562 points and Vietnam took the third place, having racked up 548 points.

Iranian weightlifter Hossein Soltani made a clean sweep of all the available gold medals in the 77-kilogram weight category in the western Uzbek city of Urgench.

Aref Khaki snatched three medals in the men’s 85-kilogram class, while Afshin Taheri claimed the silver and bronze medals in the same weight division.

In the men’s 94-kilogram weight section, Rasoul Motamedi won two silver and one bronze medals.

Amir Azizi also got three bronze medals in the 105-kilogram weight class.

Arman Mohammadzadeh clinched three gold medals in the men’s over 105-kilogram category, while Mohammad Hossein Raeisi won two silver medals in the same class.

The 25th Asian Junior Women and 32nd Asian Junior Men Weightlifting Championships was held from April 20 to 30.
