Trump provoking North Korea, a nuclear power, into war with US: Analyst

US President Donald Trump and other officials in his administration are provoking North Korea – a nuclear power – into a war with the United States, a journalist and political analyst in London says.  

Writer, journalist and peace activist Adam Garrie made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday.

The United States has deployed a number of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THHAD) missile systems to reportedly shoot down North Korean intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) in case of a war. But analysts are wondering whether the advanced interception system will really work against the latest missile in the North’s arsenal.

In late November, Pyongyang successfully test-launched what American military experts called a Hwasong-15 ICBM, the largest North Korean missile tested to date with a presumably long-enough range to deliver nuclear warheads deep into the US mainland.

David Schmerler, a research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), told CNN that Pyongyang “wanted (to be able) to hit all of the US and they wanted something big to hit it with,” and the new Hwasong-15 “seems on the surface level to be that missile.”

Despite being hyped up, experts say THAAD missile systems stand little chance to defend the US and its allies from North Korean ICBMs.

Garrie told Press TV that the “latest finding about the inadequacies of the THAAD system -- the anti-missile system made in the US -- is currently comprised as well as the notorious inaccuracies of the US system designed to shoot down inter-continental ballistic missiles from space means that the new Hwasong-15 ICBM that North Korea just successfully tested is as a real a threat as the North Koreans said and as real as a threat as the Americans said.”

“Now, in the same words what this would mean is that mutually assured destruction would mean that the United States to treat North Korea in the same way that they treat the Russian Federation and the people of the Republic of China. North Korea is now able to strike the United States anywhere on their territory,” he stated.

“So the United States for all the money that it spends on its missile technology, it’s not to deliver a system capable of withstanding a North Korean onslaught should Donald Trump and the lunatic Nicky Haley would push the world to this dangerous level,” the analyst added.

“And while it is hard to believe that even people as maniacal as them would be on a suicide mission to paraphrase Trump’s own words when he said insultingly to the North Korean leader at the UN when he threatened to destroy a fellow UN member state. We can’t put anything past this regime in Washington,” he noted.  

“They declared war on Islam. They declared war on all the Arabs through their treachery on Al-Quds. They are provoking a very capable nuclear power in the form of North Korea into a war. We just cannot say with certainty what these kinds of psychopaths frankly will do next,” he observed.
