US national security adviser warns of rising likelihood of war with N Korea
The White House National security adviser has emphasized that the possibility of a US war with North Korea is "increasing every day" following Pyongyang’s latest test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)
"I think it's increasing every day" H. R. McMaster said Saturday at the Reagan National Defense Forum when asked whether the North Korean missile launch has intensified the potential of war with the United States.
“The greatest immediate threat to the United States and to the world is the threat posed by the rogue regime in North Korea and... efforts to develop a long range nuclear capability,” said McMaster.(pictured below)
He further conceded that "every time he conducts a missile launch, a nuclear test, he gets better," referring to North Korea leader Kim Jong-un.
McMaster pointed out that Pyongyang’s long-range missile launch last week, which flew higher than any of its previous long-range rockets, posed a growing threat to the US as the North is persistently advancing its nuclear capability to strike the American mainland.
While celebrating its successful test-launch, Pyongyang announced that the ICBM Hwasong-15-type missile was an intercontinental ballistic rocket that could be tipped with super-large heavy warhead capable of striking the entire US territory.
Washington reacted to the latest missile launch by warning that Pyongyang’s leadership would be “utterly destroyed” if its pursuit of a long-range nuclear missile arsenal sparked a military clash.
Tensions are expected to rise next week as the military forces of the US and South Korea plan to launch a massive air force drill mobilizing some 230 aircraft, including six US F-22 Raptor stealth jet fighters.
