Skydrive to be in air by Tokyo Olympics

Japanese engineers say their flying cars will be in the air by the Tokyo Olympics.

A team of young Japanese engineers is getting closer to building the world’s smallest flying electric car.

Known as the “skydrive”, the futuristic vehicle is fitted with 3 wheels, a motor and four sets of propellers, enabling it to take off and land vertically from public roads without the need of a runway.

A prototype of the flying car was recently tested near the city of Toyota. So far it’s only taken off, hovering at eye level for a few seconds before falling to the ground.

Engineers are aiming to prepare the car just in time for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games so that it can be used to light up the flame for the opening ceremony of the prestigious event.
