An anonymous hacker has released the details of 20,000 FBI employees and 9,000 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel online.

The so-called cybercriminal had earlier threatened to take the measure, Motherboard, which had received a copy of the data, reported Monday.

“Long Live Palestine, Long Live Gaza,“ reads a message at the top of the dump, which also included the hashtag “#FreePalestine.“

The hacker, who claims s/he obtained the data from the US Department of Justice computers, initially released details of DHS personnel and later those of FBI agents.

US officials have downplayed the role of the breach.

The Department of Justice says it “is looking into the unauthorized access of a system operated by one of its components containing employee contact information.”

“This unauthorized access is still under investigation; however, there is no indication at this time that there is any breach of sensitive personally identifiable information,” DOJ spokesperson Peter Carr said in a statement.

According to Motherboard’s report, “Carr’s statement seems to confirm what the hacker told Motherboard. The cybercriminal reached out to Motherboard through an apparently compromised DOJ email account earlier last week, and claimed to have obtained the stolen data by compromising that account and then using it to access a DOJ portal.”

A Twitter account tweeting about the breach said the hack was aimed at pressuring the US to cut ties with Israel.

“I think the government can hear #FreePalestine now hahhaha” the account tweeted.

Another tweet read Sunday: “When will the US government realize we won't stop until they cut relations with Israel.”
