Next round of Yemeni peace talks to be held on mid January

UN special envoy for Yemen says the next round of Yemeni peace talks will be held on January 14. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed made the announcement at a press conference following peace negotiations among Yemen’s warring sides in Switzerland. Cheikh Ahmed slammed ceasefire violations during the talks.
Saudi warplanes have again violated a ceasefire in Yemen killing at least six civilians in the province of Hudaydah. Earlier on Sunday, Saudi fighter jets killed five women in the province of Sa'ada. Yemeni forces have, in response, killed over a dozen Saudi soldiers in the kingdom's Jizan region.
Israeli forces have shelled southern Lebanon. The attack is staged shortly after three rockets fired from Lebanon’s south landed in Israel. Reports say the rockets were fired from southern Tyre following the killing of prominent Hezbollah member Samir Quntar in an Israeli airstrike on his home in Syria.
Nine people have been wounded in a rocket attack on a military bus in western Damascus. Syrian media say the bus was on the road from Mazzeh to Damascus when it was hit by a rocket fired by terrorists. The Syrian capital is a frequent target of militant attacks.
The Iraqi military has urged residents of Ramadi to leave the ISIL-held city within 72 hours. Army officials say the move suggests that a major military operation to retake the city center will start soon. Last week Iraqi army forces made advances on two fronts in the city.
Preliminary results from Spain's parliamentary elections show that the ruling conservatives have won most of the seats. However, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's party will fall short of an overall majority to form a government. The Socialists are in the second position.
In the Philippines, the death toll following a week of heavy rain and widespread flooding has risen to 45. Several towns remain under water as rain keeps falling in northern regions. Floodwaters are preventing rescuers from reaching many of the worst-affected villages.
Out-of-control bushfires continue to rage across several Australian states. The blaze has reportedly destroyed several homes and farmlands, forcing the people to leave their houses. Total fire bans have been issued for eight areas in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Hundreds of firefighters are battling the wildfires.
