Russia has test-fired a ballistic missile from the Verkhoturye submarine in submerged position from the Barents Sea.

Russian submarine K-51 Verkhoturye launched a Sineva intercontinental ballistic missile onto training grounds in the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russian Far East, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

"On December 12, the crew of Captain 1st Rank Dmitry Zelikov at the North Fleet's Verkhoturye made a successful launch of a Sineva ballistic missile from designated area in the Barents Sea onto the Kura training grounds in Kamchatka," the launch report read.

"The Sineva trajectory parameters were observed, and the combat blocks have arrived successfully in the designated area of the Kura field in Kamchatka Peninsula."

For Verkhoturye it was the 27th successful launch of a ballistic missile.

Russian vessels armed with Sineva ballistic missiles are among the Russian Navy’s nuclear deterrent forces.

Moscow has been conducting drills, including long-range ballistic and cruise missile launches from various locations over the past months.
