Pezeshkian vows to push for full implementation of Iran-US MoU as he visits Pakistan

President Masoud Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says his visit to Pakistan is aimed at following up on the full implementation of all clauses of the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington, praising Pakistan’s “indispensable” role in facilitating the agreement.

Speaking before departing for Islamabad on Tuesday morning, Pezeshkian said the visit comes at the invitation of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and follows extensive efforts by Pakistani officials to coordinate and finalize the MoU between Tehran and Washington.

“This trip, which is being made at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, has taken shape after extensive efforts by the Prime Minister, Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Army Chief, Mohsin Naqvi, the Interior Minister, and the Pakistani government to coordinate and finalize the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States,” Pezeshkian said.

He said the process pursued by Pakistani officials in defending the rights of the Iranian nation played an “indispensable” role in finalizing the agreement.

“The efforts made by these dear ones were such that perhaps their concern for reaching an agreement and establishing peace in the region was greater than ours,” he added.

Pezeshkian departed Tehran for Islamabad on Tuesday at the head of a high-ranking delegation for a one-day official visit.

The president is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Pakistani authorities during the visit, during which he will exchange views on the most pressing issues of mutual interest to the two countries.

Pezeshkian said that the visit aims to pursue the continued implementation of all MoU clauses within the framework of international law and the rights of the Iranian people.

“What has been signed must be fully operationalized,” he said.

The president said the agreement’s implementation could significantly reduce many of the region’s problems and, amid ongoing “unjust wars and aggression by the Zionist regime against Islamic countries,” and would help strengthen regional stability and security.

“A key point emphasized in this MoU is the prohibition of Zionist regime aggression against Islamic countries,” Pezeshkian noted, expressing hope that the process would lead to sustainable regional security and “cutting off the hands of aggressors.”

The president also said discussions during the visit would cover exchanges in commercial, economic, cultural, security, and military fields, as well as peace and security.

He said expanding ties with Pakistan and other Islamic nations, including Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and other regional countries, aligns with the approach emphasized by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and remains a priority on the government’s agenda.

Pakistan played a pivotal role in facilitating the Iran-US MoU, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir mediating the talks.

The agreement, which ends the war that began with US‑Israeli air raids against Iran on February 28, also includes provisions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the eventual lifting of all sanctions, pending further negotiations.

Despite the MoU, diplomatic efforts between Iran and the US remain strained.

A follow‑up meeting in Switzerland on Sunday was overshadowed by fresh tensions after President Donald Trump made threatening remarks against Iran.

Iranian officials have expressed frustration over continued US hostility despite the framework agreement.

Tehran has asserted that the MoU talks must result in the full implementation of the MoU, including the lifting of all sanctions and a permanent end to aggression on all fronts.
