Preliminary results show that Canada's Liberal party, led by Justin Trudeau, has claimed a stunning victory in the country’s federal elections.

According to vote projection results by Canada's major television networks on Monday, the Liberals are about to oust the nine-year Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The 43-year-old Liberal leader, the son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, has vowed to repair relations with the US, withdraw Canada from the combat mission against the Daesh Takfiri terrorists, and deal with climate change problems.

Based on early results, the Liberals took all 32 seats in the country's Atlantic provinces, and gained high scores in key Ontario and Quebec provinces.

Trudeau overcame Conservative attacks centered on his inexperience and jumped from third place to the top of the polls during the final days of his campaign.

The former teacher became party leader around two years ago and led the party out of political disfavor with pledges of economic stimulus and rousing appeals for social liberalism.
