1. Protesters in New York have condemned what they described as the US media role in promoting war and conflict around the world. They marched on a CNN building. The protesters denounced the influence of US media on the public and the war interests of corporations.
2. The United States is reportedly examining proposals to arm 5,000 of its troops in Eastern Europe and Baltic countries with heavy weapons. The move would be the first time since the end of the Cold War that Washington stations heavy military equipment in newer NATO members.
3. In Syria, Kurdish fighters have recaptured the town of Suluk near the ISIL-held town of Tal Abyad in Raqqah province. The Kurds say they are only kilometers away from Tal Abyad, which is near Turkey’s border. The road linking Tal Abyad with Raqqah is also said to be under the control of Kurds.
4. The Lebanese Hezbollah fighters have advanced in the strategic Qalamoun region along the Syrian border. Hezbollah fighters engaged in an operation to secure the area between Qalamoun and Arsal. A number of ISIL-affiliated and al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front terrorists were killed and many fled the battlefield.
5. The Yemeni army and allied Ansarullah fighters have launched retaliatory attacks on an army base inside the Saudi territory. Yemeni forces fired over 40 rockets at a number of military sites in the Jizan region, southwest of the kingdom. Several Saudi soldiers have also been injured.
6. The representatives of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement have refused to travel to Geneva to attend the UN-brokered talks. An Ansarullah member said the movement is opposed to be seen as representatives of a coup while the other side is treated as Yemen's legitimate government.
7. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos orders the army to intensify its operations against FARC rebels. On Friday, the rebels killed five police officers in the southwestern Cauca province. The president says his government won't agree to a bilateral ceasefire sought by FARC, unless a peace deal is signed.
8. In Italy, hundreds of African refugees have staged a mass sit-in protest for the second day, demanding to enter France. French authorities sent police forces to prevent the migrants from crossing the border. Some of the refugees who came to Italy on boat have gone on a hunger strike to protest their conditions.
