Iran Greco-Roman wrestlers win championship in Asian tourney
Iran has stolen the show at the 25th Asian Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships at the Aspire Dome of the Qatari capital Doha.
With a blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm, the Iranian side garnered 63 points as it won three golds, one silver, two bronzes and a fifth title on Sunday.
The glittering medals came after Ramin Taheri, Yousef Qaderian, and Mehdi Abbas Aliyari Feizabadi edged past their rivals in all bouts of the 71, 80, and 98-kilogram categories respectively.
Mohammad Ali Geraei handed Iran the silver medal of the 66-kilogram category while the country’s 75-kilogram representative Payam Bouyeri Payani and 130-kilogram wrestler Bashir Babajanzadeh bagged two bronze medals, and Davoud Abedinzadeh stood on the fifth place of the 85-kilogram class.
Kazakhstan finished the runner-up with 58 points, followed by China and Uzbekistan collecting 57 and 54 points, respectively.
