President Pezeshkian congratulates Iran youth weightlifting team on world title

President Masoud Pezeshkian has congratulated Iran’s national youth weightlifting team after it claimed the championship title at the 2026 IWF World Junior Championships in Egypt.

Iran finished the competition in Ismailia with six gold medals, seven silver medals, and one bronze.

In a congratulatory message on Friday, the chief executive said the team’s success demonstrated the "determination, capability, and merit" of Iranian youth on the international stage and brought "pride and honor to the great nation of Iran."

"This valuable achievement is a clear manifestation of the self-belief, perseverance, and firm resolve of our young people, who, relying on their talent, hard work, and chivalrous spirit, have portrayed a hopeful image of the future of the Islamic Republic," he said.

The competition saw Hamidreza Mohammadi-Tanha win gold with a total lift of 401 kilograms, successfully completing lifts of 171, 176, and 180 kilograms in snatch and 206, 214, and 221 kilograms in clean and jerk to collect three gold medals.

Taha Nemati-Moghaddam took silver in the same category with a 392 kilogram total, earning three silver medals.

In the 110-kilogram division, Abolfazl Zare secured three gold medals with a total of 400 kilograms, while Farhad Gholizadeh claimed three silvers with a 387 kilogram total.

Earlier in the competition, Hamidreza Zarei had earned bronze in the 94-kilogram category with a total of 366 kilograms.
