UK PM resignation

British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced her resignation following a deadlock with parliament over her negotiated Brexit deal with the European Union. May added she will remain Prime Minister until the process of choosing a new premier concludes. She said she did her best to honor the result of the 2016 Brexit referendum as well as that of the EU. May said she failed to convince UK lawmakers to back her Brexit deal, after three times of trying to do so. May, in recent weeks, included new proposals in her agreement. But, the Conservatives and the Labour both said they would not support the modified agreement. The Brexit deadlock has delayed the UK’s departure from the EU until October.

Row over Huawei

China has denounced US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for his comments about telecoms firm, Huawei. The Chinese foreign ministry says certain US politicians are making all kinds of rumors without giving evidence. On Thursday, Pompeo accused Huawei’s chief executive of lying about his company's ties to Beijing. President Donald Trump has also called the Chinese company very dangerous over what he described as national security threats. Last week, the Trump administration banned Huawei from acquiring technology from US firms without government approval. Washington has also been pressing its allies not to use equipment made by Huawei, citing espionage or cyber-attacks concerns. Huawei rejects the allegations.

Saudi war on Yemen

Saudi Arabia has carried out yet another airstrike on Yemen, leaving a number of civilians including children dead. Saudi warplanes targeted a fuel station in Mawiyah district in the southwestern Yemeni province of Ta'izz. At least nine civilians including children were killed in the raid. Riyadh, along with some of its regional Arab allies has been pounding Yemen since March 2015. Over 15,500 people, mostly civilians have lost their lives ever since. Over four years of war on Yemen has also pushed millions to the brink of starvation. The Yemeni army and its allied Ansarullah forces launch retaliatory strikes from time to time, targeting Saudi bases and facilities. Last week, they hit two Saudi oil pipeline booster stations with drones, causing damage and disruption to the oil flow.

North Korea blames US

North Korea says negotiations with the United States will never resume unless Washington moves away from its “unilateral demands” for disarmament. An unnamed North Korean foreign ministry spokesman made the remark in a statement. The statement also said that an arbitrary and dishonest US position had resulted in the failure to reach a deal during a second summit between the two countries. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump met in February in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi. The summit failed to make any breakthrough after the US rejected North Korea’s demands for sanctions relief.
