Iran Leader criticizes EU3

The Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution says it is unacceptable that European parties to the 2015 nuclear agreement fail to fulfill their related commitments while Iran holds up its end of the deal. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the comment in a meeting with visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of a trilateral summit of Iran, Russia and Turkey on Syria. The Leader said Iran will make sure its stance on the nuclear deal protects its national interests. Ayatollah Khamenei also called for elimination of the US dollar from trade between Iran and Russia. Putin, in turn, said the US is making a strategic mistake by limiting other countries’ access to its financial system. Putin said this weakens the dollar and undermines trust in the currency. The Russian leader also said the Europeans are effectively following the US policy on the nuclear deal despite talking about protecting the agreement.

Iran summons Iraqi envoy

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman says the Iraqi ambassador in Tehran has been summoned over an attack on the Islamic Republic’s consulate in Basra. Bahram Qassemi said the envoy was notified of Iran's strong protest over the negligence of the Iraqi forces to protect the consulate. Earlier, Qassemi slammed the raid as brutal and called on the Iraqi government to punish the perpetrators. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry also condemned the attack as an unacceptable act which is against the country’s interests. A group of assailants torched the Iranian consulate in Basra amid massive protests against corruption and a lack of basic services. One protester died and 11 more were wounded in Friday’s demonstrations.

Trump tariff threat

The US president has threatened to impose tariffs on all Chinese goods imported into the United States, increasing the already tense trade relations with Beijing. In a speech in the American city of Fargo in North Dakota, Donald Trump warned that he would punish China with tariffs on 267 billion dollars in imports. Washington has already slapped punitive tariffs on 50 billion dollars in goods and Trump earlier said another 200 billion dollars “could take place very soon.” That would cover almost all the goods imported from the world's second largest economy.

Israel Gaza killings

A Palestinian teenager has been killed and hundreds injured in anti-Israeli demonstrations held as part of the March of Return rallies in the Gaza Strip. Protesters also condemned US President Donald Trump for his hostile policies against the Palestinian people. Press TV correspondent Ashraf Shannon has more details in a report from Gaza.

Rival rallies in Germany

More than 2,000 far-right anti-refugee protesters have staged a rally in the German city of Chemnitz. Supporters of a far-right movement known as "Pro Chemnitz" gathered in the city center. They chanted "Merkel Must Leave." Meanwhile, counter-protesters consisting of several hundred people from the left-wing alliance of "Chemnitz Nazifrei" gathered on the opposite side of the square. Security forces separated the rival groups. The far-right protest was sparked by the pro-refugee policies of the government.

Iran slams US stance

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has slammed US double standards toward the Islamic Republic following its withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal. Rouhani says the US has drawn a sword for war with Iran. He says the nation needs unity and solidarity to confront the all-out US economic and psychological warfare. Rouhani also called on all branches of power in Iran to stand by his government in the face of the US pressure. President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the Iran nuclear deal with world powers in May and restored sanctions on Iran. Since then, he has time and again offered talks with Iran for a new deal. Iran has rejected negotiations under pressure.

Yemen demands UN guarantees

Yemen’s Ansarullah movement says it’s still waiting for the United Nations’ guarantees to attend peace talks in Geneva. Ansarullah says its team must take an Omani plane to attend the talks. The movement, which includes Houthis, also wants the plane to carry its wounded members. Ansarullah has blamed Saudi Arabia for not allowing the Omani plane to transfer its delegation to Geneva.

Israeli restrictions
