Iran suffers 3-2 loss against Australia in Asian Women’s U17 Volleyball Championship

The Iran women’s national under-17 volleyball team has conceded a bitter defeat against Australia at the preliminary round of the 12th edition of Asian Women’s U17 Volleyball Championship in Thailand.

On Tuesday, the Iranian outfit, which had Negar Salahshouri, Zahra Rezaei, Negar Hosseininejad, Rayhaneh Karimi, Kimia Kiani and Zahra Moghani in its initial lineup for the Pool C fixture in the central Thai city of Nakhon Pathom, suffered a 2-3 (25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 21-25 and 9-15) loss from the Australian side.

The Iranian team started the game with whim and vigor, and took an early lead over the opposite squad. The Australians, in return, sought to reduce the margin.

The Iranian volleyball players built up momentum afterwards, and finally conquered the first set at 25-22.

Iranian players imposed the pace again in the second set, and claimed the set 25-20.

The third set started with Iran powering past to accumulate points. It was 14-7 in front before Australia started to play great defense and fine counter-attack. The Australian team won the third set 25-19 at last.

The Australians closed the fourth set off at 25-21. They maintained their composure and lead into the final set, and went on racking up points to finally clinch a 15-9 victory.

Earlier in the tournament, the Iranian team had stormed past New Zealand 3-0 (25-12, 25-20 and 25-17) in its opening match on Monday.
