Tasisat Daryaei eliminated from AFC Futsal Club Championship

Japan’s Nagoya Oceans futsal players celebrate after winning the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Club Championship quarterfinal match against Tasisat Daryaei of Iran in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 19, 2016.

Iranian futsal club Tasisat Daryaei has conceded defeat to Nagoya Oceans of Japan at the quarterfinal of the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Club Championship in Thailand.

The Iranian club bid farewell to the continental tournament on Tuesday evening, when the defending champions lost to the Japanese opponents 2-3 in the penalty shootout after both teams stayed neck-and-neck throughout the match staged at the indoor Bangkok Arena, located in the Nong Chok district of the Thai capital.

The game tied 1-1 at the end of the regular time, and the two Asian clubs played out a fairly competitive 2-2 draw in the extra time.

“I feel proud of my team. I feel very happy, of course. I told them if we lose, we’ll lose like men. And they didn’t. They understood all the messages. The champions were a very hard opponent. We had to work a lot and put all on the pitch. There’s no secret about the preparation. We try to do the same things against all the other opponents,” Nagoya Oceans coach Pedro Costa said after the match.

“We worked very hard yesterday and talked about our defense. We prepared like the other games, but the focus was near 100 percent. As young players, they were nervous at the beginning, but they gained confidence game after game and started to believe it is possible. We had some luck with penalty kicks, but we have trained at them. My goalkeeper stopped a penalty in the game and in the shoot-out. So I need to say a (congratulatory) word about him.”

Tasisat Daryaei coach Amir Shamsaei said, “Today was a very, very bad day and we did not play well. Unfortunately, there were some small mistakes regarding the tactics of our team. This was the reason why we lost. Today, Nagoya did very well and surprised us. They pressed us and fought well and when you try so hard you can win.”

“We won last year, but they won this time. Losing is not the end of life. This has been a very good experience for the future of Tasisat. We made a decision for (Vahid) Shamsaei to take the penalty (in the shootout) but (Saeed) Abbasi said he felt right to take it. He is one of our best penalty takers but unfortunately today he had really bad luck,” he added.
