Young Iranian futsal players have won the second edition of Asian University Futsal Championship in Kazakhstan, following an emphatic and well-served victory over the hosts.

The Islamic Azad University outfit, which was representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the 8-day-long continental sporting event in the Kazakh city of Almaty, crushed Kazakhstan A contingent 12-0 on Wednesday to stand on the top of the table at the end of their campaign in the continental tournament.

Iranian sportsmen had defeated the Tajik side 10-0 in the semi-finals in the march to the final clash.

Mojtaba Hassannejad, Danian Kivili, Aref Boluk and Ali Mahmoudi scored a brace each for Iran’s Islamic Azad University team, while Hamidreza Pourjavid and Alireza Rafeipour netted two more goals to help Iran emerge as the deserved winner.

The Islamic Azad University futsal team had been drawn in Group B with Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, as well as Kazakhstan B.

China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan A and Tajikistan made up Group A.

The second edition of Asian University Futsal Championship started in Almaty on April 21 and finished on April 28.

Iran hosted the first edition of the event in the capital, Tehran, between June 6 and June 12, 2012, and won the title.
