Japan water polo team stuns Iran in Rio Olympic qualifier

The national Iranian men’s water polo team

The national Iranian men’s water polo team has suffered its first loss at the 2015 Asian Qualification Tournament for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, which are scheduled to be held in Brazil.

On Wednesday and day one of the sporting event in the central Chinese city of Foshan, the young Iranian athletes went down to Asian powerhouse Japan.

The Samurais opened the game in a very convincing fashion, remaining consistent throughout the fixture.

The Iranian team was unsuccessful to slow down the opposite side’s pace, and Japan’s force saw the Persians slip behind.

Iran finally capitulated and gave in to the pressure that the Japanese outfit was applying, and suffered a 2-23 defeat.

Iran’s national water polo team is scheduled to take on Saudi Arabia on Thursday, and will face off the Chinese squad the day after.

The Persians will have a bye on December 19, before playing against Kazakhstan in their last Rio Olympic qualifier.

The 2015 Asian Qualification Tournament for the 2016 Summer Olympics started in Foshan on December 16 and will finish on December 20.
