Iran beats Austria 12-7 on May 28 to reach the final match of the 5th edition of the FINA World Men's Water Polo Development Trophy held in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

The Iranian National water polo team has reached the final match at the 5th edition of the FINA World Men's Water Polo Development Trophy held in the Iranian capital of Tehran after beating their group B’s strongest rivals Austria 12-7.

Siroos Teherian’s men had already trounced Guatemala, Indonesia and Tunisia in their first three matches. But the Thursday match against the Austrians turned out to be a nail biting one for the Iranian fans at the Shahid Shiroudi Stadium.

But as the match got close to its final stages, Iran became better and enlarged the gap to win the 4th and final match of its group stage and proceed to the final with 8 points.

The Iranians will meet Latin American powerhouse Uruguay in the final on May 29.

The 6-day international water polo event kicked off on May 24.

Ten countries in which the sport is considered as less popular have taken part at the competition.
