Press TV has conducted an interview with Paul Larudee, a former US government advisor from Berkeley, to ask for his insight into Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s move to address the Western youth in a letter.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: I’m wondering how you reacted to this letter of Ayatollah Khamenei and specific in pointing out the many double standards that it did.

Larudee: I’m glad that he did that. To anyone who’s even mildly informed on the issue, it’s very clear that the United States and the Western powers have been playing very deadly games with the terrorist groups.

On one hand, they’ve been calling them terrorists and condemning them, but on the other hand they’ve been treating them as hoodlums that can cause created problems for the adversaries of the United States and actually any group, any nation or other interest group that tries to think in ways that are independent of what the West wants to hear.

So, the history of the games that the United States has been playing with the so-called Mujahedeen as far as back as the late 60s, it’s been saying that they’re the enemies of the United States while at the same time helping them along in order to cause trouble from which the United States and other [Western] powers, let’s think, they will benefit.

Press TV: Indeed, I want you to talk about a blowback; Ayatollah Khamenei’s specifically talking about roots of terrorism. I’m wondering how important do you think it is for Western youth especially - obviously the future leaders of the West - to realize what the roots of terrorism really are?

Larudee: Well, [Ayatollah] Khamenei said that most of the people know that and are aware that this is not exactly true.

I think the vast majority of Americans do not know that the United States has been playing this game. They are kept in ignorance and very deliberately so through the manipulation of the media in the West, in the United States.

And so, this explains how the United States can do this by keeping their own people ignorant. So, but it’s very important if this becomes sufficiently widespread and then widely known then it becomes more difficult for the United States and other powers to do this.
