Iran loses to Portugal in Women's Futsal World Tournament

Iran women’s national futsal team has suffered a loss to Portugal in its opening group stage match at the 2015 Women’s Futsal World Tournament in Guatemala.

On Wednesday, the Portuguese side leap-frogged Iran into the second spot of Group A with a 3-1 win at the Domo Polideportivo de la CDAG, known commonly as Domo de la Zona 13, multi-purpose arena in Guatemala City.

In another match of the group, Brazil trounced Costa Rica 9-0 to land in the top slot with a nine-goal cushion.

Iranian female futsal players are scheduled to play Brazil in their next fixture on Thursday.

Iran has been drawn in Group A along with Brazil, Costa Rica and Portugal. Group B consists of Guatemala, Japan, Russia and Spain.

The 2015 Women’s Futsal World Tournament opened in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on November 24 and will conclude on November 29.

On September 26, Iran women’s national futsal team lifted the trophy at the 2015 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Futsal Championship in Malaysia following a victory over the Japanese side.

The Iranian sportswomen played good defense against the offensive Japanese team in a match played at the Nilai Indoor Stadium in the western Malaysian city of Nilai, preventing the Samurais to score.

It was in the eighth minute when Fereshteh Karimi seized a marvelous chance and scored the winner for the Iranians.

The 2015 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship started in Nilai, Malaysia, on September 21 and wrapped up on September 26.
