Pezeshkian on Khorramshahr liberation anniv.: Resistance, sacrifice deeply rooted in Iranian spirit

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian

President Masoud Pezeshkian has congratulated the nation on the 44th anniversary of the liberation of the strategic port city of Khorramshahr from Iraqi forces under the deposed dictator Saddam Hussein, stressing that resistance and sacrifice are deeply rooted in the Iranian spirit.

In a post published on the social media platform X on Sunday, Pezeshkian described the struggle to maintain Iran’s sovereignty over the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz as remarkably similar to and as significant as the battle to liberate Khorramshahr.

“Our nation today is just like the people of the undefeated yet brave Khorramshahr, who resisted against the invading (Iraqi) army for days, and exhibited Iran’s might to the whole world,” he stated.

Pezeshkian underscored that resistance, steadfastness, and response to any act of aggression are deeply rooted in the Iranian nation’s spirit.

Qalibaf: Iranian fighters will never accept capitulation

Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also issued a separate message, saying that no enemy can ever face up to nationalist and religious servicemen of the Iranian Armed Forces.

He emphasized that Iranian fighters enjoy planning, piety, and courage, will emerge triumphant, God willing, and won’t ever accept capitulation.

Qalibaf added that the Iranian Armed Forces and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, thanks to their bravery and valor, have astounded and bewildered the entire world.

“Iranian forces have taught the world that nations could cover themselves in glory and honor through faith in God, strong determination and courage, besides expertise and strenuous efforts. Such nations would never admit defeat,” the top Iranian legislator said.

Iran emerged victorious against three wars of aggression: Judiciary chief

Separately, Iran’s Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei stated that safeguarding national unity is not simply an ethical or political recommendation but a major constituent of national security.

He added that experience has shown that enemies tend to exert more pressure on Iran anytime divisions and discords mount within the society, while the nation has managed to overcome crises once people have stood shoulder to shoulder with each other.

Mohseni-Ejei further said that Iran managed to record major victories during the 1980-1988 Iraqi-imposed war, as well as in the June 2025 and February 2026 US-Israeli wars of aggression.

Iranians will continue to do so, provided that they stand fully committed to the Islamic establishment, further consolidate national unity and solidarity, and strengthen their self-belief, he concluded.

Saddam, Trump committed ‘strategic mistake’ against Iran: Leader’s advisor

Furthermore, Mohammad Mokhber, an adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, stated that both the slain Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, and the current US president, Donald Trump, committed a strategic mistake, as they failed to recognize the Iranian nation’s might.

“Any act of adventurism against the Islamic Republic of Iran is doomed to an all-out and civilizational defeat,” he stated.

Iranian forces recaptured the southwestern city of Khorramshahr in a landmark operation code-named Beit ul-Moqaddas in 1982, putting an end to over 500 days of the Iraqi occupation.

Iran launched the operation in April 1982 and liberated Khorramshahr on May 24 of the same year. In retaking the city, the Iranians captured some 19,000 troops from the Iraqi army.

Some 6,000 Iraqi forces were also killed, and thousands of others were injured during the operation.
