Iranian youngster Abolfazl Pishevar captured the country’s only gold medal at the Asian U15 Boxing Championships in Tashkent.
The tournament, staged at the Competition Venue Hall in the Uzbek capital, brought together rising talents from across Asia in the U15 and U17 categories, with strong participation from traditional boxing powers such as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and India.
In the 35kg division, Pishevar delivered a composed and fearless performance in the final bout on Thursday, overcoming his Kazakh opponent to secure the continental title and hand Iran its lone gold medal of the championships.
The Iranian boxer had already impressed on his path to the final. After receiving a first-round bye, he defeated a Kyrgyz boxer in the semifinals to guarantee himself a medal before advancing to the gold-medal showdown.
Moments after his victory, Pishevar produced one of the most emotional scenes of the competition.
The young champion climbed onto the ring carrying a schoolbag in tribute to Iranian children massacred in a US-Israeli strike on an elementary school in Minab on February 28.
Iran’s U15 national team competed in Tashkent with six male boxers and finished the championships with one gold and two bronze medals, placing fourth in the overall team standings.
