An Iranian academic who spent more than thirteen months in a French prison for publicly condemning Israel's genocide in Gaza has returned home to a hero's welcome.

Mahdieh Esfandiari arrived in Tehran after sustained diplomatic efforts by Iranian authorities to secure her release. Her case, which her lawyers describe as politically motivated, has become a symbol of what activists call the growing repression of pro-Palestinian voices in the West. Gisoo Misha Ahmadi reports.
