Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has praised Spain over its “principled and honorable” stance against the US-Israeli aggression on Iran, stressing that all countries should take an action against war crimes committed against Iranians by the aggressors.
In a phone call with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares, Araghchi said "Spain's valuable stances in defending international law and human values have been noted and praised by the Iranian nation and the international community, and will never be forgotten."
Iran’s top diplomat hailed Madrid for condemning war crimes committed against the Iranian people by the aggressors, stressing that all countries have a responsibility to denounce these crimes and to hold their perpetrators accountable.
Referring to the Pakistan-mediated ceasefire announced on Wednesday after 41 days of intense fighting between Iran and the US-Israeli coalition, Araghchi emphasized that an end to the war in West Asia requires the US fulfill its commitments to stop the war and the Israeli regime's crimes in Lebanon.
For his part, the Spanish minister emphasized that supporting international law and human values, and opposing war are among the fundamental foundations of Spain’s foreign policy.
Noting that Madrid has condemned the illegality of military attacks against Iran from the very beginning, the minister welcomed the announcement of the ceasefire.
He also urged all parties to adhere to the ceasefire and focus on the diplomatic path to restore stability and lasting security to the region.
Iranian Foreign Minister spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stressed that any talks to end the war hinges on the US adherence to its commitments under the announced ceasefire on all fronts, especially in Lebanon.
Speaking to reporters, Baghaei strongly condemned Israeli crimes in Lebanon, where residential buildings across the country have come under brutal airstrikes since the ceasefire.
He also praised the legendary resistance of the Lebanese people against the brutality and hegemony of the Zionist regime, and appreciated the support they showed for the Iranian people during the US-Israeli aggression.
“Today, the solidarity and empathy between the peoples of Iran and Lebanon is greater than at any time in history,” Baghaei stated.
He stressed that the two-week ceasefire announced on Wednesday includes Lebanon.
“The cessation of the war in Lebanon was an integral part of the ceasefire agreement proposed by Pakistan, and as the Prime Minister of this country also clearly stated, the United States is committed to stopping the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon,” the spokesman said.
He warned that “any action or stance contrary to this commitment constitutes a failure by the United States to adhere to its commitment.”
Baghaei confirmed that Pakistan has invited Iran and the US to Islamabad to take part in talks aimed at ending the war.
“Any talks clearly hinges on ensuring that the United States fulfills its commitments to the ceasefire on all fronts,” he said.
On Wednesday, Iran declared a “historic victory” in the 41-day war of aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime, announcing that Washington had been forced to accept a 10-point Iranian proposal.
Israel's Maariv newspaper admitted that the US-Israeli war against the Islamic Republic has ended in a "decisive victory for Iran," with both the US and Israel conceding to a "strategic surrender" and retreating from the battlefield.
The Israeli newspaper emphasized that Iran has imposed a deal largely of its own design on the US, rejecting Washington's proposal.
One of the points in the proposal called for the immediate cessation of US-Israeli hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
However, hours after the ceasefire was announced, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company said an oil refinery located on Iran’s Lavan Island had come under attack.
The Israeli regime also targeted multiple locations in Lebanon, including the capital, Beirut, killing hundreds of civilians.
