Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has sharply criticized the United Nations for its failure to act in halting the US-Israeli aggression and for its inability to hold the aggressors accountable.
His remarks came during a meeting with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for West Asia Jean Arnault in Tehran on Thursday.
Gharibabadi emphasized that the US and Israeli war against Iran is a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter.
He described the unprovoked and illegitimate coordinated attacks on civilian infrastructure, which have resulted in the deaths and injuries of thousands of innocent civilians, as war crimes.
"Attacking and destroying residential homes, hospitals, schools, historical and cultural sites, and infrastructure are undeniable examples of crimes against humanity and war crimes," said the Iranian diplomat.
He further condemned certain criminal officials within the US administration and the Israeli regime, who, according to him, took pride in the killing of children, labeling such actions as the height of barbarity and inhumanity.
Gharibabadi also held the Arab states of the Persian Gulf responsible for hosting US military bases and allowing the US to use their territories to launch aggression against Iran. He reiterated that Iran's retaliatory actions had been purely defensive and were not aimed at any neighboring states.
"It has become evident that the foreign military presence has turned into a destabilizing factor and a threat to the security of the entire region," he stated.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister also asserted that the US has been forced to request a ceasefire after Iran and the Axis of Resistance successfully repelled the US-Israeli aggression and emerged as the clear victors in the conflict.
Regarding current ceasefire efforts, Gharibabadi made it clear that Iran opposes any temporary truce and is seeking a permanent resolution to end the aggression. He stressed that Iran is firmly opposed to any partial solution that would simply restart the cycle of negotiations, war, and ceasefire.
"Iran is completely opposed to any partial resolution of this situation that would repeat the cycle of negotiations, war, and ceasefire," he declared.
He said that the only viable option is a permanent end to the war, with accountability for the aggressors and securing compensation for the damages caused.
In response to Gharibabadi's statements, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General noted that the ultimate goal of the UN is to achieve a lasting resolution to the crisis, which addresses all aspects of the situation.
