The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it has intercepted and shot down an intruding unmanned aerial vehicle in the skies over the country's southwestern province of Khuzestan.

In a statement on Wednesday, the public relations department of the provincial IRGC force announced that the hostile aircraft was targeted and destroyed as it was hovering over southern Iran.

The statement added that the interception was carried out under the control of Iran's integrated air defense network.

Earlier, the IRGC air defense units had shot down two intruding Hermes drones in the skies over Dokouheh district in Andimeshk County of Khuzestan Province.

On Tuesday, the IRGC said it tracked and destroyed a Hermes drone over the Iranian capital, Tehran. It announced that the unmanned aircraft was shot down by its advanced defense systems, which are under the control of the national integrated air defense network.

The number of hostile drones destroyed by Iranian Armed Forces since the beginning of the ongoing US-Israeli war of aggression has surpassed 130. Iranian air defenses have also struck several intruding fighter jets.

The United States and Israel initiated an unprovoked military aggression against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several high-ranking military commanders and civilians, on February 28.

Both military installations and civilian facilities have been attacked throughout Iran, leading to considerable loss of life and widespread damage to infrastructure.

In response, Iranian armed forces have carried out over 80 waves of retaliatory missile and drone strikes against US interests across West Asia and Israeli positions in the occupied territories.
