The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has mourned the martyrdom of Iran's top security official during unprovoked American-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic, pledging to avenge the atrocity.

The Corps made the remarks in a statement on Wednesday after official announcement of the martyrdom of Dr. Ali Larijani, former secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).

The IRGC condoled with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei over the martyrdom, noting that "the blood of the esteemed martyr would serve as a source of strength and national alertness in the face of the global arrogance and international Zionism."

It described Dr. Larijani as a revolutionary and eruditely figure with immense influence across various spheres ever since the victory of Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979.

"The Corps will definitely not omit to avenge the esteemed martyr and the other martyrs of Iran's Sacred Defense" against the adversaries, the statement read.

The attack targeting Dr. Larijani also led to the martyrdom of his son Mortaza and the deputy for security at the SNSC's Secretariat.

Dr. Larijani also served as a member of Iran's Expediency Council and a senior advisor to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

He previously served as Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) for 12 years before being succeeded by Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf.

Throughout his long and successful political career, he also contested presidential elections and served as head of the national broadcaster, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

The unprovoked and illegal aggression against the country began on February 28 with the assassination of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as well as some top-ranking military commanders.

In retaliation, Iranian armed forces have carried out 60 waves of successful and decisive retaliatory strikes so far against sensitive and strategic American and Israeli targets throughout the region.
