Iran and Saudi FMs discuss outcomes of latest indirect Iran-US talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has held a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

According to a statement from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the foreign ministers on Thursday discussed bilateral relations and the outcomes of the latest round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Araghchi highlighted the ongoing diplomatic efforts amid efforts to address longstanding issues surrounding Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

Prince Faisal expressed gratitude to Araghchi and expressed hope for constructive negotiations leading to a mutually acceptable outcome.

This phone call followed a three-hour indirect meeting between Araghchi and American negotiators on Wednesday in Geneva, where they agreed on a set of guiding principles to facilitate future discussions.

The Geneva talks are part of ongoing indirect nuclear negotiations that began in Muscat on February 6, led by Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff.

The Geneva negotiations occur amid heightened regional tensions.

US President Donald Trump has ordered additional military deployments to the region, including an aircraft carrier, thousands of troops, warplanes, and guided-missile destroyers.

In late January, Trump mentioned an “armada” of warships heading toward Iran, warning that failure to reach a deal could have severe consequences, far worse than the June 2025 strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Tehran has vowed to respond decisively to any military provocations, as seen with the June US attacks that led to a ballistic missile response against Al Udeid, the US's main airbase in Qatar.
