The Special Intensive Revision, or voter list revision exercise, has sparked outrage in India. Many activists, rights groups and political parties allege large-scale disenfranchisement of voters.
Based on reports, some 65 million voters have been removed or deleted from electoral rolls across several Indian states citing reasons like death, duplication, or shifting of residence.
The exercise has sparked panic and fear among marginalized communities, calling it systemic disfranchisement of voting rights.
