Iran's Greco-Roman wrestling team wins championship title at Zagreb Open 2026 in Croatia

The Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling team secured the championship title at the Zagreb Open 2026, a United World Wrestling (UWW) Ranking Series event, by winning three gold medals and four bronze medals.

The Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling team claimed the championship title at the Zagreb Open 2026, a United World Wrestling (UWW) Ranking Series event, securing three gold medals and four bronze medals.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Wrestling Federation of Iran, the first UWW Ranking Series event of 2026 took place in Zagreb, Croatia, from February 4 to 8, with Greco-Roman competitions concluding around February 7-8.

The Iranian team competed in seven weight classes, earning gold medals through:

Mohammad Hosseinvand (55 kg)

Erfan Jarkani (63 kg)

Ali Oskou (77 kg)

Bronze medals were won by:

Pouya Dadmarz (55 kg)

Meysam Delkhani (63 kg)

Mohammadreza Mokhtari (82 kg)

Mohammad Hadi Seidi (97 kg)

In the team rankings, Iran finished first with 125 points, followed by Uzbekistan (120 points) in second and Kazakhstan (108 points) in third.

Detailed Results:

55 kg: Pouya Dadmarz defeated Sebastian Kolumpar (Serbia) 4-0 and Brady Koontz (USA) 8-0 before losing to Mohammad Hosseinvand in the semifinals. Hosseinvand won the final against Ikhtiyor Batyrov (Uzbekistan) 2-0 to claim gold. Dadmarz secured bronze by defeating Lalit (India) 5-3.

60 kg: Sajjad Abbaspour received a bye and reached the semifinals but lost to Koto Gumi (Japan) 10-0. He finished fifth after losing the bronze match. Pouya Naserpour was eliminated after a loss in the second round.

63 kg: Erfan Jarkani won gold by defeating Seyfullah Kurman (Kazakhstan) 10-1, Khosnidin Olympov (Uzbekistan) 9-1, Vitaly Eryumenkov (Moldova) 3-1, and Chetan (India) 8-4 in the final. Meysam Delkhani secured bronze after defeating Dastan Zarlikhanov (Kazakhstan) 8-0.

67 kg: Ahmadreza Mohsennejad lost in the first round, and Mohammad Kamali finished fifth after a repechage victory.

77 kg: Ali Oskou claimed gold, defeating several competitors, including Zoltan Levy (Hungary) 9-1 in the final.

82 kg: Abolfazl Mehmidi was eliminated after one match. Mohammad Reza Mokhtari reached the semifinals and secured bronze, though details are limited.
