The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says the European Union's move to add the elite force to its so-called terrorist list shows its alignment with the interventionist policies of the United States.

In a statement on Sunday, the IRGC condemned the EU’s “hostile, invalid and absurd” move and expressed its appreciation to the widespread wave of support, solidarity, and the wise positions of the noble Iranian nation.

The statement came after the European Union designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization, a move condemned by Iran as illegal and irresponsible.

It said the EU designation has no legal and political legitimacy and runs counter to the principles and logic of international relations.

“Such moves will not only fail to weaken the resolve and missions of the IRGC but will instead strengthen internal cohesion and increase national determination to safeguard the country's interests and security,” the statement added.

It emphasized that the EU's approach disregards the destabilizing role of those who are creating crisis in the region, particularly the “savage and terrorist” Israeli regime.

The IRGC reiterated that such measures will not only fail to contribute to regional peace and security but will make the path of constructive engagement and cooperation even more difficult.

It noted that IRGC forces have never hesitated over the past decades to safeguard Iran's independence, security, and territorial integrity, and serve the Iranian people.

According to the statement, some European countries have become a haven for various terrorist groups, including the Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MKO) group, Daesh and separatist currents and continue to provide the terrorists with various forms of military, media, and logistical support.

The IRGC said world public opinion expected European countries to abandon such duplicitous behavior and to explicitly and decisively condemn the horrific crimes of the terrorist Israeli regime in destroying Gaza's vital infrastructure, killing over 70,000 people and injuring about 170,000 children, women, and oppressed people of Gaza.

The elite force pledged that it will spare no effort in fulfilling its key missions to defend the country and safeguard the security, peace, and dignity of the noble Iranian people.

The designation came in response to Iran's measures against rioters who violently wreaked havoc across the country on the invitation of a monarchist and the public incitement of US and Israeli leaders in late December and at a time when the United States had escalated its bellicose threats against Iran and built up a military presence in the region.

Foreign-backed armed rioters and terrorists hijacked peaceful, sporadic protests over economic grievances on January 8 and 9 and turned them into scenes of murder, torching of mosques, clinics, ambulances, and commuter buses, and destroying public and private property.

Iranian authorities have confirmed that US and Israeli spy agencies were directly involved, providing funding, training, and media support to rioters and armed terrorists acting on the streets.
