Iran warns US

The spokesman of Iranian Armed Forces has warned the United States that any threat directed at the Leader of the Islamic Revolution would meet an overwhelming response. In reaction to the recent US rhetoric, Brigadier General Abulfazl Shekarchi said Washington tries to create fear among Iranian people through a media war. He warned if one single part of Iran is attacked, the country will take action to severely punish the aggressor as it was proved during the June war. Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament's National Security Commission has warned that any attack on the Leader of the Islamic Revolution would amount to a declaration of war against the entire Muslim world. The commission says that such a move would trigger a call for jihad or uprising by Muslim scholars across the globe.

Iran foreign-backed terrorism

Iran's mission to the United Nations has rejected Western media efforts to depict the recent violent riots and terrorist attacks in the country as peaceful protests. In a social media post, the Iranian mission dismissed claims that terror attacks in Iran were peaceful protests as fairy tale. It said what happened in Iran was nothing short of imported chaos. The mission then cited some of the violent crimes committed by terrorists who had the backing of the US and Israel. It said foreign-funded terrorists and professional rioters, agitators and insurrectionists shot and stabbed people, burned public property, and terrorized civilians. The Iranian mission also attached to its message a documentary film titled "Operation 13th Day" about recent terrorist attacks in the country. The mission’s remarks came after Iran’s permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva said recent terrorist attacks were continuation of the US-Israeli 12-day aggression against Iran in June. Ali Bahraini said the attacks were intended to provoke foreign intervention and cause insecurity in the country.

EU-US trade war

Tensions keep rising between the US and the European Union over Washington’s plan to take over Greenland, and its threat to impose additional tariffs on EU members that oppose the plan. In the latest development, EU lawmakers have agreed to hold off ratifying a key trade deal with the US following President Donald Trump's tariff threats. The European Parliament was planning a vote in the coming weeks on removing tariffs on US industrial goods as part of the agreement. According to EU lawmakers, the Parliament is expected to formally suspend on Wednesday its work on the trade deal that was struck with the US last summer. The suspension does not totally abolish the deal, but it sends a strong message of discontent to the White House that the EU may take step to undermine American businesses. France has already voiced its support for the suspension of the trade deal with the US. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said the US is using tariffs threat as blackmail to obtain unjustifiable concessions, adding that the EU has very powerful instruments to respond to Trump's threats.
