Iran’s top general conveys Leader’s greetings to riots’ victims

Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi

Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, on behalf of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has visited security personnel who sustained injuries in the recent foreign-backed riots that erupted in Iran, wishing them a speedy recovery.

Major General Mousavi visited medical centers in the capital, Tehran, where he was briefed on the latest condition of those injured in the riots that took place on January 8 and 9.

He conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Commander-in-Chief Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to the wounded people and their families.

Major General Mousavi stressed that the casualties were inflicted upon the security forces because, in many cases, they confronted the rioters, who used human shields, with their bare hands.

“If our youth wanted to confront these rioters with the power of weapons, they could have gathered [arrested] them all within two hours. But because the terrorists had used human shields and mixed in with ordinary people, our dear ones, in some cases, weren’t allowed to use weapons, and in some cases they stood against them without weapons," he said,

"They defended this country, this flag and these people with only their lives, that is, with their own bodies, and were harmed,” Major General Mousavi stated.

What began as peaceful protests late last month gradually turned violent, as rioters rampaged through cities across the country, killing security forces and civilians and attacking public infrastructure.

Iranian officials have linked the riots and terrorist acts to the US and the Israeli regime, with President Masoud Pezeshkian saying that armed rioters were trained by the US and Israeli spy agencies.

Iran’s Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref said the recent riots in the country marked the second phase of the Israeli regime’s war against the Iranian nation after the 12-day war in June.

The US and Israel’s Mossad have admitted their involvement on the ground, with former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeting, "Happy New Year to every Iranian in the streets. Also, to every Mossad agent walking beside them."

In a Farsi-language social media post, Mossad encouraged rioters to “Go out together into the streets. The time has come,” adding that Mossad operatives are with the rioters "not only from a distance and verbally. We are with [them] in the field.”
