Araghchi Fox News interview
The Iranian foreign minister has advised the US president to choose diplomacy when dealing with Iran, warning him against repeating the mistake he made during the 12-day aggression in June. In an interview with Fox News, Abbas Araghchi was reacting to Donald Trump's latest threats to take military action to support foreign-backed rioters in Iran. Araghchi said if Trump tries a failed experience, he would get the same results. He said Iran has proved it is ready for negotiations and diplomacy, but it was the US that always evaded diplomacy and opted for war. He said between war and diplomacy, the latter is a better choice. Elsewhere in his remarks, Iran's foreign minister said the recent terrorist operations in Iran were the continuation of the 12-day war that was imposed on the country by Israel and the US. He added that after three days of terrorist operations, now there is calm in the country and the government is in full control. He warned that any effort to escalate tensions will be disastrous for everybody. Araghchi noted that foreign-backed terrorists, who used Daesh-style methods, wanted to kill more people following Trump's warnings, in order to drag him into the conflict. He emphasized that dragging the US into the conflict was exactly an Israeli plot.
Gaza ceasefire agreement
A senior Hamas official has welcomed the formation of the Gaza Administration Committee under the second phase of the territory’s ceasefire deal. Taher al-Nunu, however, stated that Israel must be pressured by mediators to fully implement its side of the agreement. Affirming Hamas' support for the committee, Al-Nunu described it as a crucial step toward alleviating the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. He emphasized that Hamas would do everything possible to ensure the committee's success, in order to restore stability and pave the way for normalcy in Gaza. The top official, however, stressed that Hamas demands the opening of the Rafah crossing and the complete withdrawal of occupation forces from Gaza. His comments came after US special envoy Steve Witkoff announced the start of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire. He said this phase would establish a Palestinian technocratic transitional government in Gaza, and initiate the full disarmament and rehabilitation of the territory. The announcement came after Palestinian factions reached a common stance in Cairo, reaffirming full commitment to the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
Tensions over Greenland
Amid the ongoing tensions between the US and Denmark over Greenland, a new poll has shown that only 17-percent of Americans approve of President Donald Trump's plan to acquire the Arctic island. The poll also revealed that most Democrats and Republicans oppose using military force to annex Greenland. The poll said only 4 percent of Americans, including just 10 percent of Republicans and almost no Democrats, supported using military force to seize the island. Ninty percent of Democrats and sixty percent of Republicans thought it was a bad idea. Trump argues that Greenland is crucial to US security and must be acquired to prevent Russia or China from controlling the strategically located territory. On Wednesday, he reiterated that the US needs Greenland and cannot rely on Denmark to protect it, stressing that something will finally work out regarding the governance of Greenland. His comments followed a meeting with Danish and Greenlandic officials. Following the meeting, Danish Foreign Minister said they could not change Trump's position. Lars Lokke Rasmussen and his Greenlandic counterpart criticized Trump's plan as an unacceptable violation of sovereignty.
