12% of US poised to lose vital ‘food stamps’ over government shutdown

In the United States the largest impact of the federal government shutdown is now looming: the end of food assistance for 42 million poor people.

Poor families, seniors and children are anxiously waiting to see if Washington will provide emergency assistance before the program runs out of funding on November 1st.
