Protesters clashed with police outside the Gare du Nord train station in Paris on Wednesday, as anti-government demonstrations denouncing President Emmanuel Macron's leadership swept through France.
The widespread "Block Everything" protests come two days after Prime Minister Francois Bayrou was ousted in a confidence vote in the National Assembly over plans to reduce France's public deficit. Within less than 24 hours, Macron appointed Sebastien Lecornu - France's fifth prime minister in less than two years.
Organizers of the Block Everything movement urged people using Telegram and other social media platforms to disrupt transport, schools and public services and oppose the proposed austerity measures by Bayrou's outgoing government.
According to reports, authorities deployed 80,000 police officers across the country, including 6,000 in the capital, fearing that up to 100,000 demonstrators might take part. Dozens were subsequently arrested in Paris, Nantes, Montpellier and Rennes.
