Tasu'a mourning

Iranians across the country are holding mourning ceremonies to commemorate Tasu'a. That’s the ninth day of the lunar month of Muharram and the day before the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hossein, the third Shia Imam and a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Every year, black-clad mourners mark the occasion by holding massive processions and ceremonies at mosques, religious centers and on the streets. During the first ten days of Muharram, Shia Muslims commemorate Imam Hossein, and his devoted companions who were killed by tyrant Yazid in Iraq's Karbala in 680 AD. The ten-day period serves as a reminder of the Imam's legacy including self-sacrifice and resistance against oppression.

Israel's Iran aggression

Iran’s Foreign Ministry says Israel must be held accountable for the crimes it committed during the aggression against the Islamic Republic. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said new aspects of the Zionist regime’s attacks on Tehran and other cities are coming to light, days after a halt to the aggression. He made the comments in a social media post where he also shared a video of the aftermath of the devastating bombing of Evin Prison Hospital in Tehran on June 23rd. Baqaei stressed that 79 people, including family members visiting inmates, staff, and bystanders, lost their lives. The spokesperson stressed that this act was a blatant violation of humanitarian law and a clear war crime. He pointed out that no conscientious person can remain silent in the face of such oppression.

US-Israeli Gaza genocide

It’s been another deadly day for Palestinians in Gaza as the Israeli military continues to pound the war-ravaged territory indiscriminately. In one of the latest strikes, at least four people were killed and several others injured after Israeli warplanes bombed the town of Bani Suheila, near Khan Yunis in the south. Fatalities were also reported in the Israeli bombing of al-Mawasi refugee camp, also in Khan Yunis. Elsewhere in southern Gaza, several Palestinian were killed by direct Israeli fire near an aid distribution center in Rafah. In central Gaza, several people were killed after the regime targeted a school near Gaza City’s al-Zaytoun neighborhood. According to Gaza health officials, more than 57-thousand two-hundred Palestinians have been killed since the US-Israeli genocide began in October 2023. Over 135-thousand others have also been injured.
