Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri has been martyred in the Zionist regime's latest aggression on Iran, officials confirmed.
The aggression was launched in the early hours of Friday in the capital, Tehran, and multiple other Iranian cities, leading to the assassination of many top-ranking military commanders and nuclear scientists.
Major General Bagheri served as the top military general since June 2016, when Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei picked him to succeed Major General Seyyed Hassan Firouzabadi.
Before that, he had served as Deputy for Intelligence and Operations and later as Deputy for General Affairs and Joint Operations at the General Staff.
Following his martyrdom in Friday's Israeli terrorism, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution appointed Major General Seyed Abdolrahim Mousavi as his successor.

Ayatollah Khamenei warned that the regime must now await a "harsh punishment."
In a statement on Friday morning, hours after the latest Israeli aggression against Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Zionist regime has prepared a “bitter and painful fate” for itself.
“With this crime, the Zionist regime has prepared a bitter and painful fate for itself — and it will undoubtedly face it,” the Leader said in his message.
Iran’s Minister of Defense, Aziz Nasirzadeh, said the regime should expect a crushing and regretful response” from the Iranian Armed Forces following the assassination of top military commanders, scientists and civilians.
“The wicked acts and crimes of the Zionist regime will undoubtedly shorten its doomed life and strengthen the national resolve and defensive and offensive power of the powerful Iran to topple this evil regime,” he said Friday.
