Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has deplored rising insecurity in the West Asia region as a result of Israel’s ongoing crimes in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and its acts of aggression against Lebanon, calling for global action to cease the atrocities.
Speaking in a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Monday, Araghchi stated that the international community should mobilize in order to put an end to the largest genocide of the century, which is underway in the war-devastated and besieged Gaza Strip.
Israel has killed at least 52,243 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and injured 117,639 other individuals in Gaza since October 2023.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its war on the territory, which it has made almost uninhabitable.
Araghchi also briefed the top Saudi diplomat on the process of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US over the peaceful nature of Tehran’s atomic activities.
The two countries have held three rounds of talks in Oman and Italy on April 12, 19 and 26 with the purpose of reaching a deal on Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

For his part, the Saudi foreign minister extended deep commiserations to Iran over the tragic explosion that occurred in the country’s southwestern port city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday and killed at least 40 people and injured more than 1,000 others.
He conveyed his country’s condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families as well as the Iranian government and nation, and prayed to God for the recovery and wellbeing of the injured.
The two foreign ministers further discussed bilateral ties besides regional and international developments during the telephone conversation.
