US-Israeli genocide in Gaza

More Palestinian civilians are slaughtered in Gaza as the Israeli military presses ahead with its air and artillery strikes on the blockaded territory. The latest regime’s attack targeted tents housing displaced people in al-Mawasi refugee camp near Khan Younis. A family of five, including a pregnant woman, were killed. Various areas in the southern city of Rafah and a medical clinic in Gaza City were also bombed. The latest fatalities bring to over 51,300 the number of Palestinians killed in the besieged territory since October 2023. Most of the casualties are women and children.

Iran-US indirect talks

Iran says any progress in the indirect negotiations with the US hinges on the other side’s good faith, seriousness, and realism. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran will tailor its actions based on the behavior of the US side. He stressed that the Islamic Republic remains committed to defending the legitimate rights and interests of the Iranian people. He said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Oman on Friday evening to take part in the third round of indirect talks with US envoy Steve Witkoff, scheduled for Saturday. Expert-level discussions will also take place on the sidelines of the main negotiations. Iran’s team for these talks will be led by seasoned diplomats Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi.

India-Pakistan tensions

Pakistan and India have exchanged cross-border fire despite the UN appeal to both countries to exercise restraint following the deadly Kashmir attack. Islamabad says troops exchanged fire along the Line of Control. It says there was no firing on the civilian population. Indian army has also confirmed that there had been limiting firing of small arms. It says the incident was initiated by Pakistan and India was forced to respond. The escalation comes a day after UN Spokesman Stephan Dujarric urged New Delhi and Islamabad to ensure that the situation that has developed does not deteriorate further. He said any issues between the two countries must be resolved peacefully. Tensions have been escalating between Islamabad and New Delhi after an April 22 armed attack killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam. Indian police identified two of the gunmen as Pakistani nationals.
