Iran parliament speaker urges promotion of trade exchanges with Tajikistan

Iranian Parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf (L) shakes hands with Tajikistan’s Chairman of the National Assembly Rustam Emomali in Dushanbe on October 10, 2024.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says Iran and Tajikistan have doubled the volume of trade exchanges over the past three years but they need to further boost cooperation given their enormous capacities.

Qalibaf made the remarks in a meeting with Chairman of the National Assembly of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali in Dushanbe on Thursday.

He is in Dushanbe at the head of a parliamentary delegation at the invitation of Emomali and Speaker of the House of Representatives Zokirzoda Mahmadtohir to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and facilitate trade, cultural and political ties between the two countries.

Qalibaf said Iran and Tajikistan have previously signed some 100 documents for cooperation in political, economic, cultural and parliamentary sectors, noting that the removal of visas and facilitation of economic exchanges are indicatives of the two sides’ will to expand relations.

Emomali, for his part, said Iran attaches special significance to enhanced cooperation with the regional countries and believes that it will be beneficial to the governments and nations.

Tajikistan’s Parliament is scheduled to host a two-day International Inter-parliamentary Conference on October 10-11 dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the country's constitution.
