Report: Israeli military suffers heavy casualties in 'unusual incident' in Gaza

Footage of military helicopters landing at hospitals following the incident on Friday is circulating on social media.

Media reports said five helicopters carrying 10-15 soldiers have landed in four different hospitals following the incident.

The Israeli military later said one more soldier was killed and 16 others were injured in in the southern Gaza Strip.

In a statement cited by the Times of Israel newspaper, the Israeli military identified the soldier as Sgt. First Class Alon Kudriashov from the Egoz commando unit.

Among the 16 troops injured, six soldiers were in serious condition, and all of them were transferred to hospitals in Israel.

The latest fatality brought the death toll of Israeli soldiers, according to the military, since the start of the onslaught in Gaza on Oct. 7 to 598.
