Rafah's last hope
More than 140 days of the US-led Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, Palestinians inside the coastal enclave wondering if this day or this hour will be their last, but it seems as if the international community has turned a corner.
Day five of the International Court of Justice hearing on the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land was the day the post-bombardment future of Gaza, as reimagined by the apartheid regime was laid bare.
Netanyahu's plans include the 'complete demilitarization' of the enclave, closing off the territory's southern border with Egypt, as well as the overhaul of Gaza, civil administration, and education systems. In other words, an entity completely ruled, directed, and occupied by whomever Israel deemed 'safe.'
Perhaps this was always the plan in the same fashion in which the occupation entity does not define its borders. It stands to reason it would never fully make its post-bombardment plans clear for Gaza, except in the most open-ended and vague terms.
Meanwhile, even the UN special coordinator for the Middle East has warned the Security Council that he is worried about the impact of the potential Israeli incursion into Rafah due to the impact on civilians, who have already fled many of them several times over for their very lives.
