Iran condemns terrorist attack at courthouse in Istanbul
Iran has condemned a deadly terrorist attack at a courthouse in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
In a statement on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan'ani expressed Iran’s solidarity with the “friendly and brotherly nation” of Turkey in confronting the sinister phenomenon of terrorism.
The Iranian official also expressed sympathy with the bereaved, and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
Two armed assailants, a man and a woman, attacked Caglayan Courthouse on Tuesday. They killed a woman and wounded at least six people, including three police officers, before they were shot dead by security forces outside the judicial compound on the European side of Istanbul.
In the wake of the attack, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey would continue to fight all “terror groups.”
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Turkish officials blamed it on the leftist armed group Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C), which has previously carried out attacks in Turkey, including one in 2015 when its armed members took hostage and killed a prosecutor at the same courthouse.
