Hamas, Islamic Jihad slam US-UK aggression against Yemen

Palestinian resistance movements based in the Gaza Strip have condemned the recent US and British airstrikes on Yemen, saying the aggression is a violation of the Yemeni sovereignty and fuels tensions across West Asia.

The United States and Britain carried out dozens of air raids on the provinces of Sana’a, Hudaydah and Sa’ada, among several others  late on Saturday.

The Pentagon claimed the strikes targeted 13 locations across Yemen and hit weapons storage facilities, missile systems, and launchers the Yemeni Armed Forces and the popular Ansarullah movement used to attack Israeli-tied shipping in the Red Sea in support of the Palestinians in Gaza.

“We strongly condemn the American-British bombing of Yemen, and we consider it a blatant attack on the sovereignty of a sister Arab country,” Hamas said in a press statement cited by Palestine's Safa News Agency on Sunday.

“The aggression is an escalation that will drag the region into more turmoil and instability, for the repercussions of which Washington and the Israeli occupation bear full responsibility,” the resistance movement said.

Praising the Yemeni position on supporting the Palestinians, Hamas called on the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take a decisive stance against the US and British aggression that violates the sovereignty of Arab countries.

Hamas also demanded “practical measures” aimed at stopping more than 120 days of brutal Israeli onslaught on Gaza.

Arab states urged to follow Yemen's example

In a separate statement on Sunday, the Islamic Jihad resistance movement condemned the continuation of the US-British aggression against Yemen.

“These attacks seek to ignite the region and expand the circle of fire, contrary to what the American administration is promoting, and therefore it bears full responsibility for the repercussions of this ongoing piracy,” the Islamic Jihad said.

"Washington and Western capitals are still managing the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, and providing it with political and economic cover and military and intelligence support, and therefore they are involved in genocidal crimes targeting the Palestinian presence."

The resistance movement also commended the Yemeni stance on supporting Gaza. “We hope that all the free people of our Arab and Islamic nation will follow this authentic position.”

Yemeni Army spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said on Sunday the aggressor countries conducted 48 airstrikes across the Arab country, warning that their assault will not go unanswered.

In solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, Yemeni forces have targeted ships going to and coming from ports in the occupied territories, or those vessels whose owners are linked to Israel, in the southern Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, the Gulf of Aden, and even in the Arabian Sea.

In response to the pro-Palestine maritime campaign, the US and its allies have on several occasions bombed Yemen in violation of international law.

The Israeli regime launched its hostilities in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, after the territory’s Hamas-led Palestinian resistance groups launched surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupiers.

Israel has killed more than 27,300 people, most of them children and women, in Gaza since early October.
